Technology Violation at the Higher Level
As an assistant principal many of your staff’s internet accounts/access are NOT blocked by filtering software, but is logged and electronically monitored. Your ITR or other technology specialists comes to you and provides evidence that the principal is visiting “inappropriate” websites and chat rooms. What will you do with this information and what direction and/or response will you provide to the ITR or other technology specialist?
Old Dogs - New Tricks (Technology)
As a new assistant principal you observe that your principal is not utilizing technology, instead the principal has the school secretary read and/or print e-mails. The principal has also directed you to write e-mails using the principal’s e-mail account so that the Central Office thinks the principal is staying current with both technology and communication. How do you handle this situation?
Money and Technology (Attitude)
Money is definitely “tight” in public schools, many sources of funding have been severely reduced or eliminated. How do you “fight” the response of educators who may say, I don’t have any money for technology”?
Technology and Professional Development
Professional Development for technology usage is constantly changing and creating great voids in most teachers “tools” as the technology changes so rapidly. As a school leader how will YOU keep current and how will you keep your staff current?
Does your school allow student e-mail accounts. What is your feeling about the school policy on student e-mail?
Internet Filtering
Internet “filtering” is the method public schools and public libraries use to limit inappropriate content to students. It was established as part of the original federal funding for these organizations under what has become called “E-Rate” funding. As a school leader how will you manage, consult or direct the filtering for internet content in your school or offices? Include in your response your beliefs, responses to violations of filtering policies and what you will do so that useful websites that are blocked may be utilized.
